Black slip.
Initially, these bottles were made to protect the more vulnerable pots from the full force of the wood, ash and flame. They were placed just behind the bag wall, a chequered brick wall which directs and disperses the flame as it enters the main chamber. As a result, the bottles often emerged heavily ashed and salted. I now make them in various sizes. When they stand together in the gallery they often suggest a group of people.
