Wood fired salt glaze stoneware.

Cut sided teabowl decorated with porcelain slip. Blushed creamy Shino glaze inside.

In Japan, tea ceremonies are contemplative rituals, and offer an opportunity to appreciate the tactile and aesthetic qualities of the teabowl. The form I often make is known as a yunomi. When held in the hands the form can be fully sensed. I throw tea bowls on a kick wheel, faceting the wall of the bowl before forming its final shape.
